Defining a New Private Network Platform Strategy for Driving New Revenues that Enhance Core Spectrum Value Proposition

The client, a wireless spectrum and technology solutions provider for electric power utilities, needed a comprehensive strategy to expand revenue beyond their core business. They required a strategic assessment, investment plan, and go-to-market approach to redefine their offerings. This strategy aimed to enhance the value of their spectrum through private LTE services, eSIM management, and IoT connectivity across distributed grid infrastructure and sensors. The objective was to deliver an integrated solution.

Approach

Viventum was engaged as a strategic advisor to lead the product strategy and investment planning for the client’s cloud-based private wireless network, specifically tailored for electric power utilities. Leveraging its strong business modeling capabilities and deep expertise in 4G/5G technology, IoT applications, network management systems, cybersecurity, and cloud infrastructure, Viventum provided a comprehensive framework for growth. Viventum also utilized its experience in building strategic industry technology and spectrum coalitions to help the client establish and lead a strategic advisory board comprised of power utility network technology executives. The board’s mission was to drive the prioritization of private LTE network solutions among key utility stakeholders and technology vendors.

Solution

To further support the client’s executive team, Viventum briefly stepped in and provided support via an interim VP of Product, actively engaging with utility customers on eSIM management and IoT connectivity solution development, guiding and driving new product roadmaps and budgets, and supporting various industry events with product demos. Viventum also developed and showcased a private LTE network management software prototype, highlighting IoT and mobile device management, private network sharing, and inter-utility network roaming as critical features of the solution.

Outcomes

Viventum developed pricing, cost models, and a business strategy that enabled the client to monetize their private LTE network platform. By creating detailed financial models and revenue projections, Viventum laid the groundwork for profitability and growth. Additionally, Viventum crafted the go-to-market strategy for the client’s eSIM management and IoT solutions, optimizing operational capabilities and structuring scalable contract agreements.

Viventum’s work also aligned industry stakeholders around electric grid modernization priorities, further enhancing the client's position in the utility sector. The private network platform and software prototype solidified their market leadership and accelerated solution adoption.
